Karen Peterson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing and Health and has taught the Mental Health Nursing course for over 10 years.  She is a certified Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist and has served in a variety of primary care roles.  Her experience includes practice in a clinical specialist role as well as director of a psychiatric unit. Ms. Peterson continues in clinical practice and provides education and consultation at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Ms. Peterson is responsible for teaching the Mental Health Nursing courses as well as teaching in the Clinical Nurse Specialist program. In addition she teaches the Capstone Project Course in the RN-BSN program.  Ms. Peterson is currently the coordinator for the ACCESS Nursing Program here at DeSales.

Ms. Peterson is an active member of her church and involved in the Mission Outreach Team, and Touchstone Veteran’s Outreach Program. Mission projects include ongoing assistance to the homeless in Philadelphia as well as Veteran’s who struggle with Moral Injury.

Ms. Peterson received her Nursing Diploma from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon.  She then completed her BSN at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.  She completed her MSN at Rutgers University with a specialty of psychiatric/mental health nursing. She will graduate in January 2018 from the DeSales University with a Post-Master’s Certificate Program as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
