FISC Norfolk Detachment Philadelphia
700 Robbins Avenue, Bldg 2B
Philadelphia, PA 19111-5083

Why I Do What I Do: I chose to work for the Federal Government because I have always had an interest in helping to make our country a better place to live. I enjoy working under the Department of Defense as it allows me to use my business skills for the purpose of serving those in the Armed Forces. It gives me great pride to know that my daily activities directly support those who are working to defend our country.

Jobs Held In College:

  • Four years as a DeSales MBA Office Work-Study Student.

  • Four summers as a Government Service Intern for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Hobbies: Music, movies, distance running, off-road motorcycle riding, NASCAR, and attending graduate school classes.

Favorite Music: Modern and alternative rock.

Favorite Sports Personality: Dale Earnhardt Sr., Ricky Carmichael, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Courses I Loved: Organizational Behavior (Dr. William Roth); Macro- and Microeconomics (Dr. Tahereh Hojjat); Principles of Management (Dr. Joe Lewis).

Biggest Achievement: I worked my way through college while still being able to graduate as a dual major with the highest grade point average in both majors.

Biggest Disappointment: The difficulty I encountered while searching for a job after graduation. Regardless of how well you distinguish yourself while in college, it is still very important to network, and get your name out there in the job market.

Career Goals: I plan on serving the government in my current position, and eventually on the managerial level while continuing my education. When I obtain adequate business experience and academic credentials, I plan on entering the academic world as an undergraduate business professor.

Influential People: My parents, Gene and Betty, have been the most influential people throughout my life. It is because of them that I have such a strong desire to succeed in everything I do. At DeSales, I was most influenced by Dr. Roth, Dr. Hojjat, Dr. Latib, Dr. Lewis, and Bill Dwyer. They were excellent role models both while I was in college, and to this day.

Favorite Quote: "With Knowledge comes Opportunity, With Opportunity comes Success." --- Anonymous

Biggest Challenge: Getting my name on the Department of Business Awards Wall three times. It wasn't easy, but I managed to do it.

Best Advice Received: This would be a tie between Dr. Hojjat helping me decide to pursue a dual major in Finance, and Dr. Roth encouraging me to continue my management education on the graduate level.

Advice I Would Give: Pick a field of study that you enjoy, and strive to be the best in that field. Don't be afraid to switch majors or try something new. Interacting with the professors at DeSales will help you get a feel for the subject matter of different majors. College is a great time to find out what truly interests you.

Toughest Obstacle I Overcame: Pursuing a dual major and working while in college didn't leave much free time. I cannot stress enough the importance of discipline and time management skills.

What I Liked Best About DeSales: The small size of the classes really helps students to develop close working relationships with the professors. The faculty members are all very helpful and are truly a resource not to be overlooked.

What I Miss Most About DeSales: The location. Center Valley is a beautiful area and the campus is really nice. As an avid distance runner, I thoroughly enjoyed spending countless hours exploring the mountains, valleys, and trails surrounding the campus.

What I Miss Least About DeSales: The judicial system and the campus police.

Advice for Present DeSales Students: Find the balance between studying and having fun, and you will have a great time at DeSales.
