The Office of University Police, Public Safety and Security is responsible for security and law enforcement on the campus of DeSales University. All students, employees, and visitors are encouraged to report all incidents, emergencies and crimes directly to this department.

The vice president for administration, finance and campus environment is responsible for this office which is supervised by a chief of police who organizes and staffs the department in accordance with guidelines of the Campus Association of Law Enforcement Administrators. The chief and staff of the Office of University Police, Public Safety and Security are committed to enhancing the quality of life of the entire DeSales University campus community.

Integrity involves a display of behavior and actions in a manner consistent with the established Salesian values of the University. Respect means treating all people with value and decency, listening to the views of others while maintaining open communication. Empathy is being able to deal with other human beings in a consistent manner that exhibits both compassion and understanding. Courage is the ability to stand up for what one believes is right and to admit when one is wrong. Derived from our commitment to training, education, and trust in one another, it is the quality of mind and spirit that enables us to confront and overcome challenges of danger and adversity without fear of personal consequences. Members of the DeSales University Police Department are expected to adhere to these core values at all times.

Message from the Chief

The men and women employed in the University Police Department are deeply committed to protecting and caring for the safety and well-being of students, staff, and faculty. Although officers are directly responsible for the enforcement of laws and the investigation of crimes that occur on campus, the primary focus and attention of the department is on the people within the community which we serve.

Officers and staff continually strive to achieve the highest possible performance standards, including training expertise, to be able to provide exceptional and outstanding service to the community. While DeSales University is blessed to have a very low crime rate, we are cognizant of the fact that we have an open campus. We therefore ask for the support of all members of the University Community to work in partnership with us to prevent crime and to make our campus a safe and enjoyable place in which to live, work, and study.
